Setting Sail

There is a quote by Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. that says “I find the great things in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving; to reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it – but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.”

If we want to reach heaven we must do something. We cannot just remain still. We must take action.

Nothing grows if it remains stagnant.

Peter gives us a command in 2 Peter 3:18 to grow in the grace and the knowledge of Jesus.

Earlier on the same book (2 Peter 1:5-8) he told us:
For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (ESV)

Today let’s pull up our anchors and set sail towards an eternity in heaven with God, our Father.
